Sloop Point Plantation

Tucked away in Hampstead, Sloop Point Plantation is one of the area’s best-kept secrets. Surrounded by towering, centuries-old live oaks, this scenic enclave offers some of the most coveted real estate in the region. Many of the homes feature deep-water boat slips, waterfront properties, or sweeping views of the Intracoastal Waterway and Topsail Island beyond.

Rich in history, Sloop Point Plantation is home to North Carolina's oldest house, built for the Ashe family around 1725. The area is steeped in significance, once serving as the main seaport before Wilmington became the regional hub. It also boasts one of the last remaining Rosenwald schools, founded by Booker T. Washington to provide education to African American children in the early 20th century. Sloop Point even had a brief stint as an incorporated town, lasting just two years, making it one of the shortest-lived municipalities in state history.

Today, Sloop Point offers convenient access to a host of amenities. The nearby state boat ramp on Lewis Road is perfect for boating enthusiasts, while the Sloop Point Market and dry-stack marina are just around the corner. Shopping needs are met with grocery stores, convenience shops, and home improvement stores within a short drive. For beach lovers, Surf City and the coast are just 15 minutes away.

With its natural beauty, rich history, and proximity to key amenities, Sloop Point Plantation is undoubtedly one of the most desirable communities in the region.
