Fall into North Carolina
When someone thinks of the beach, summer immediately comes to mind. It is, after all, the time of year when most tourists visit, most locals love, and when we really get to show off as a town. North Carolina shines bright in the summer with its pristine beaches and warm waters, but the Fall is one of the best-kept secrets of the South.
What is there to do?
Beach.
Well yes, just because the season has changed doesn't mean the sand isn’t still inviting you to visit. We have to say that our favorite time at the beach are in the fall months when the tourists have all left and the sun isn’t as potent. It’s a great time of year to find the inclusive shark tooth or comb the beach for seashells. It’s also a favorite time of year for fishermen. Whether you are surf fishing, pier fishing, or taking a boat out, you’ll have great chances to catch red drum, flounder, and other seasonal fish.
Kayaking or Paddleboarding
The cooler weather makes it ideal for water activities. The calm Intracoastal, not busy with summer boaters, allows you to enjoy the scenic views of marshes and wildlife.
Fall Foliage
A drive west is worth the trip as the Fall months settle and the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains declare it’s their turn in the spotlight. Try a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway and see the breathtaking views of the leaves and shades of red, orange, and yellow. The fall foliage season can last from early October to mid-November depending on elevation.
Hiking
While you’re out west, lace up your hiking boots because the cooler temps and less humidity make for great weather to hit the trails. Popular spots include Chimney Rock State Park, Grandfather Mountain, and the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area. If you want to stay closer to home, stop by Poplar Grove Plantation. While you won’t find mountain terrain, you can still enjoy the amazing trails, wildlife, and coastal flora right in your own backyard.
